
The Office of Inclusive Excellence proudly presents a Writing Workshop for Junior Faculty, taking place on June 24, 2026 in the UCLA Meyer Luskin Center. In this special full-day workshop, Faculty members will learn to enhance their writing practice, and ultimately become better and more effective writers on their journey to tenure and promotion.
Overview
Led by Professor Kyle T. Mays (Associate Vice Provost of Inclusive Excellence and Professor of African American Studies, American Indian Studies, and History, and Author of 5 Books), this workshop is open to all Assistant Professor Faculty who do humanistic or qualitative research. Preference will be given to those who have been on the tenure-track for 3-4 years, and who have yet to complete their major publication for tenure.

We have slots for up to 20 faculty. Continental breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.

The Workshop will feature three (3) sessions:
— The first session is meant for you to understand yourself and create good writing habits.
— The second session covers the expectations of writing for tenure and promotion in your department and beyond.
— The third session will help faculty understand when and where to publish on the way to tenure and promotion.
